TomTom Model(s)
Go999
Hello Tomtom enthusiasts.
I used to buy, and sell used Tomtoms. I haven't done this for a while, but in storage I have possibly hundreds of old Tomtom units. (Plus other brands)
Most of these will be faulty. but possibly reparible.
Most (probably all) of these will also be the unsupported models.
So my question is what to do with all.
I could take them to the local tip. (seems a shame but favorite option at the moment)
Make an inventory of them and list them on ebay/marketplace. (A lot of work for little return)
Sell them to a repair shop or person.
Melt them all down for precious metals (Apparently in older models their is more, but I wouldn't know where to start)
Also the units are located in a lockup in london and i'm in South Wales so that's another factor.
Any advice appreciated.

If they're as old as they sound, understand that maps have grown so large that unless the device, at a minimum, includes an SD or uSD card slot, there's no means for loading a current map.
Further, old touchscreens not used for an extended time seem to suffer from resistance drift, requiring a rather arcane process to bring them back into calibration.

That said...

There still seems to be some demand for accessories like the little remote that came with the GO 920, and some of the mounts.
I'd fire up ebay.uk and see if there are any bits and pieces that seem to be selling.

If you can fire them up and are convinced that the screens are still reasonably well calibrated (they recognize properly where you are pressing), there's also been some market for replacement touchscreens on ebay.
