How to Upgrade to new map?

I recently downloaded the latest maps for my TomTom 920 from a friend of mine but I don't know how to install them onto my unit. I don't know if it's even possible or legal. Perhaps someone can steer me in the right direction. My unit has the North America 710.1576 but the new version I downloaded is 815.2019

Does anybody know how I can install this onto my Tom Tom? I tried just copying it over but then my 920 won't boot and I had to do a restore. If anybody can help I would truly appreciate it.

Sounds as if the map you downloaded did not legally belong to you, meaning you did not purchase it. As such, a map is locked to one specifc unit. So, it wouldn't work in your unit.......sorry, you won't get help here.
