TomTom Model(s)
A legacy device
I need to move my TomTom software from my old, dying computer to my new computer. (N.B. : I have 'legacy device' which is no longer supported by phone, email or chat, TomTom tells me.) My original CD is four years old and I have since added western European maps and updated it countless times. How can I get the updated software (2.8.3.2499) into my new computer. Many thanks!

Simply go here: tomtom.com/home and download the application.

I need more specifics, please. I downloaded the TomTom Support Application in my new computer, connected my device but it was no go: they were still looking for the TomTom software which is just what I am lacking. No big deal as I should probably buy a new, contemporary device. Thanks anyhow...

You can't just download the application, you have to "install" it (double click the icon for the installer you downloaded). Until you see the red and white hands in the systray in the lower right, it isn't running. It's no different than it was previously in this regard.

You mention the "TomTom Support Application"... that sounds to me like you may have accidentally installed "MyTomTom"?
But that program is only used for NEW TomTom models.

You need to carry on using TT Home, which you can get from dhn's link.

But I suspect you may also have made some backups or downloaded some content using Home on your old computer?

If so, you will want to also copy that content to the new computer.

Home will (by default) have saved the content to a folder in your Documents folder. This varies depending on your operating system:

For Windows XP it will be:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\TomTom\HOME....
and for Windows 7/VISTA it will be:
C:\Users\username\Documents\TomTom\HOME.....

Inside that folder will be about 6 sub-folders for Downloads, Backups etc.

Install Home on the new computer and check that folder structure exists, then just copy the whole lot from the old PC into the same place.
