Picked up a ONE. The version is called many things - depending on where I look.
Show Version: -TomTom ONEv4
The "credit Card" ID - TomTom ONE New Edition US and Can
Stop a harware device - TomTom ONE (v4)
I thought I saw - V2 somewhere, besides on the forums etc - oh well, I'll call it a v2 if you like.
Show version details:
Device XXXXX XXXXXX
App 6.560 OS:1713
29MB RAM (free: 4.0MB)
GPS v1.21, Boot 5.05
Map: USA_and_Canada v665.1293
Before I do anything, I have to have a backup (it's my job ;~)>
I've read the cd that comes with the unit has some "Home" application and understand NOT to use it according to some folks around here to backup (flakey software, does not backup voices, yada, yada, here and there) yet the docs show to "use it to backup and restore, manage this, do that. If it's anything like iTunes, I'm not looking forward to it ;~)>
Looking at threads like "How to upgrade a ONE to a 2gb card for North America maps" here:
https://www.tomtomforums.com/showthread.php?t=868
I understand, backup, backup, backup - no preferred details tho.
Also I'd like to know how to re-flash (looks like the OS is buried in the hardware like a Linksys router except havn't seen a way to have a look around) and restore, restore, restore - without using Home - PERHAPS.
So what's under the hood of this thing?
Have W2K, the ONE is plugged in a usb port, shows up as a drive.
I attempt to copy everything from the ONEs root directory and I get
"Cannot copy ._Info: Cannot find the specified file. Make sure you specify the correct path and filename."
I have a 2G SanDisk el-cheapo card (I've read the TomToms don't get along well, so we'll see).
Once a backup takes place, I'll install/plug into "Home" and see what I get stuffed down my throat, start playing around. (some say the 675 maps are no major change for some, some say don't go with App 7.12 - or navcore as I've seen it referred to, and where are those 3rd party apps ;~)>.
What's the InstallTomTomHOME.exe in the root directory of the ONE?
Sorry about all the questions, only my second GPS in about 10 years.
Also have a V3 on it's way ;~)>
TIA!
