How do you roll back the firmware?

8 to 7 on the TomTom One 3rd

I have 8 installed and I have the 7 firmware file... I just need to know what to do with it.

Backup your entire unit using Explorer, not Home. Now, delete all the loose files in the root of the unit using Explorer. Make sure Windows is set to show hidden files & folders. Do NOT delete any folders.

Now use the link above and get the firmware you wish. Unzip and put the files in the root of the unit. You may need a pin reset.

What is the difference between 7 and 8? Someone else asked this question somewhere else and gave a link to the latest Navcore 7 and I downloaded it and tried it on my ONE XL earlier today. I noticed that with Navcore7, I have 5mb of ram free vs 2mb free ram with navcore 8. I didn't see much difference between the 2 (well i only tested navcore 7 for like 5 minutes then put 8 back on there)

All my menu options seemed the same on the main menu. When I bought the unit 3 weeks ago I noticed I had a nice compass since it had navcore 7. Right in the parkinglot of CompUSA after I bought the unit, I ripped it out of its box and mounted it to see the unit work. I was really impatient to wait to get home lol. When I got home, it asked me to update to navcore 8 and so I did, and also used the latest map guarantee and updated my map from 710 to 725.

Is Navcore 8 worth it? Also, when I rolled back to Navcore 7 today I decided to connect it to the PC to see if it would ask to update to Navcore 8, and it didn't. It only asked me to download a configuration file for managing mobile phones.

I hold, from reliable sources, the stated amount of free RAM is not reliable.

To dhn,

I have a new TT One, 3rd edition with 8.010. I have learned thru this forum that 8 does not support selecting itineraries but that 7 does. This thread discusses how to "rollback" to 7. Would I first have to have had 7 on my TT to "rollback"? I tried the process suggested above but was unable to get 7 working with the maps.

I downloaded TT One Firmware 7.166.8497, as directed, and noticed it includes a folder gns. Folder gns also exists on my new TT with firmware 8.010. I tried the process with the current 8 gns folder/file and with the 7, did not seem to make a difference.

TT booted up but failed to find the maps. Connected TT Home, and it said maps are already on TT.

Did reset - same results - can't find the maps.

I typically have to plan itineraries (which I do with Google Maps) and have done the conversion via http://www.houghi.org/tomtom/ and copied the resulting itn file into itn folder. Just can't get 7 to use the maps.

Thanks in advance!

I'm not dhn but...

I think if you have a later map, firmware 7 won't work with it. I have a TT-3rd edition and still running firmware 7 - but with the older map.

Hope this helps.

If you made a backup (hopfully with Explorer, not Home) prior to your firmware/ map upgrade, then you have the older map on your computer.
Also, if you originally dl the 'older' map using Latest Map guarantee, then again it's on you computer in the tomtom/download folder.

Being a true newbie, I followed the instructions that came with TT. Call HOME - so no backup of original os/firmware.

Only after that did I seek out a forum... isn't that always the way.

C'est la vie!

There's a link here that provides older firmware versions for various models. You could try to select one that'll work for you and then try the upgrading process from there.

Sorry, but we are now in a loop.... that's the same location that you posted in the start of this thread which I went to then.

And that's the place that I successfully downloaded the firmware 7 from installed and ran it. But no 7 maps were included, and the TT froze due to no maps. Which led me to my last concern regarding getting maps for firmware 7.

So my understanding is that I have Firmware 7, just don't have the maps to work with 7 - and no one has come forward and said where the maps for 7 can be retrieved from.

Please note that as of this morning that TomTomGo Update Software site says:
"TomTom ONE V7.166 (Due to high demand this Link is temporarily unavailable. It will be restored as soon as possible.)"

Wonder why there's a run on firware 7 ?

Probably because is was the last "good" version :D (in my opinion anyway).

Not sure where you'll ever get the older map other than from your backups.

He doesn't have any backups, so that's not a good location. Are the maps signed or encrypted such that they only work with the original device? I know tomtom would frown on it, but maybe someone else with a same or similar device has backups.

Alternatively he could try being really nice but persistent with TomTom. I've known people to have credit card debts reduced because they called daily to ask for some form of assistance. The card company realized they were spending more to employ the phone staff whose time he was wasting then they'd be able to get him to repay. Everything I've read has said TomTom won't give you old maps, but then, has anyone really tried? Daily tried? For months?

Maps are locked to specific devices when installed trying to use someone else's won't work.
