How do I circumvent need for destination?

I want to be able to see cross roads, examine side roads and the like while traveling, WITHOUT having my GO720 trying to direct me back to the last entered destination. Is there a way to do this?

I don't know if this is what you mean
you have the last destination showing on the screen when you start up the devices
If this is the case,
go to main menu(by tapping on the map), click more 2 times, and select clear route

Select "clear route". After that you can use your device to show where you are, etc while travelling. However, if you click on the satellite bar, you will get a "no route selected" message, with a blank screen (no map or driving view). If you tap your screen and advance to "browse map" you can see whats ahead further than what the current driving view is giving you, but it isnt practical to do while you are in control of your vehicle.
