How can i get 3d interactive map without entering route?

The only way i can get the 3 d map is to either enter a route or go through view options, If i choose the second option the map is not interactive. Please help as i do not want to enter a route in each time i get in the car as it is a pain in the ass, probably return it if that is the case. Such great devices yet the simple stuff eludes those who design. thanks

What model and what application do you have? Most models will show 3D view when you are simply driving without a route set.
