Home pegs CPU utilization at 100%

I have searched here and didn't find any reference to this problem. Whenever I try to update my TomTom using Home, CPU utilization jumps to 100%, with Home accounting for 93-95%, until it displays a list of available updates. Quite often, Home times out, telling me that I don't have an Internet connection. Through trial and error, I found that pressing the "Windows" key, and leaving the Start Menu displayed (I'm using Windows XP), results in the progress bar displayed by Home speeding up dramatically, and greatly improves my chances of a successful update.

Am I the only one experiencing this, or is it such old news that nobody mentions it any more?

I don't want to credit the wrong poster so I'll just say someone has found that, when downloading, if he minimizes the entire TTHome application, things go much faster ... for some reason.

After reading through some of that other thread, I decided to do a brief experiment. I set Homerunner.exe to IDLE priority (resulting the priority of Homeruntime.exe also be set to IDLE), connected my TomTom and performed an update. The list of available updates appeared in less than 30 seconds. I then changed the priority of Homeruntime to NORMAL, and tried to update again, and the operation timed out.

I'll mess with it a little more, and report back any repeatable results.

Here's what works for me. When you select "update my device", minimize the window that HOME is running in. If it tries to pop up, keep it minimized. When the hard drive symbol stops flashing on your device, then it's done, and you can maximize the window again. This greatly reduces the amout of time that the update takes.
