does anyone know if there is a version of the "HOME" software that will run under linux? I am using fedora 15 currently

Having NO windows computers makes things a bit difficult in the area. I have as TOMTOM oneXL

There are versions for both Windows and Mac computers available. That leaves you trying to run an emulator or borrowing a little computer time. Have you ever updated the firmware on your unit, or do you need to update maps?

I believe the most recent firmware for the ONE-XL is 8.014, and for the ONE-XL S (the text to speech capable model), it's 8.016, both from around mid-2008.

As for maps, we're up to 875 now, with 880 due out next month sometime.

I should also have mentioned that even under Linux, your ONE-XL can be accessed as an external drive (much like a thumb drive), so you can manage custom POI data and other user 'stuff' without making use of Home at all. It's just a matter of knowing where things go in the directory structure.

Thanks,

I was aware of being able to access the tomtom as an external drive, however was wondering if someone had done some sort of front end for it on the linux platform.

I guess I will find some spare time and see what I can come up with when i have looked at it a lot closer.

Do not particularly want to put an emulator on the the system or dual boot just for Tomtom.

Then you won't get "Home". There's no version for Linux or equivalent program, I'm afraid.

However, apart from buying and installing maps, there's usually a manual way to install or backup everything else without using Home.

what were you hoping to do?

Just looking for a front end to do the things "the TOM TOM HOME" does in a simple way on a linux machine. I run fedora 15 currently.

I guess I will have to site down and program up something myself. Be an interesting exercise .

Got on intentions of going back top a MS product ever.
