H all,just purchased my very first sat nav,chose a tomtom as ive heard good tales about them.Not very good with directions has led me to go round and round my home town instead of venturing further afield,hopefully now I can set my wheels free with my new toy.

I recommend driving up to Spalding then cutting across to Market Harborough, Very nice scenic route for you to try.

Aw, come on, it's not quite as bad as that.
At least not when I was running some trains at the Northampton SME.
(52°13'32.71"N 0°53'46.33"W , go North on the lane past the lodge [best seen in Google maps Satellite.)

Next time you go North on the M1, stop in on our friends in Ampthill.
Haven't been too far from your place once when I came from Luton airport and because of rush hour congestion went via Hitchin and Clophill.

I used to live in Hitchin, nice little place. Amthill isn't too bad either
