hello new to forums.

i have a tomtom 540 live traffic and so far it good.

but recently on a trip had a issue:

Was driving to a destination all going well, get there fine.

On the return trip i exspected the tomtom to take me back the way i came as it was i beleive the fastest route, yet tomtom took me somewhere differant, still i followed it.

i get to a road with sign:"diversion" so have to folllow diversion......into guess what.....another diversion... which then leads me back to the orginal diversion :eek:

i had to therefor go the way back myself without using the tomtom.

my question is:

Is it possible to just "reverse" or "go back" the way you came? sinse i think most times the route you took going to destination is useally the best one.

is this at all possible? or do i have to keep going differant routes? any help me good.

also was suprised that the diversion wasnt on my tomtom, though maybe i was the first tomtom user to see it sinse i had updated my map corrections on the day.

Don't forget, being in Britain and using a 540 (we don't have that model, or ANY x40 model for that matter) you may have live traffic as well as IQ2 routing in play. That may have altered TT's routing suggestions.......

i know that but is it possible to reverse route or not?

i am sure there must be a way to "go back the way you came" .....anyone?

Set your starting point as 'Home'. Now, navigate to your destination. When ready to return, navigate to 'Home'.

The best approach when following a diversion is to ignore the device and follow road signs, I got caught out a while ago with the 940 when leaving Manchester......

The device isn't the quickest when it comes to route re-calculation, try driving away from the displayed route to something different while driving local and you will see what happens, when following a diversion the device has no knowledge of this and continually replans the route back to where it wants you to be. This consumes time and if you try to follow it (rather than the road diversion signs) you will get lost, confused or very irritated. possibly all three in a very short space of time.

You will often get a different route for the return leg of a trip rather than a simple reverse of the outward trip, this is down to how the device calculates the fastest route based upon left turns/ right turns/ other junctions and road speeds, IQ Routes 2 and HD Traffic will further complicate this calculation - Mike

1. Your local knowledge is far more superior than any gps device (sorry, I've repeated this statement thousand times already)
2. yes. If you create your own route called "Itinerary Planning"

so basicly the answere is no you cant "reverse" :(

Set your starting point as 'Home'. Now, navigate to your destination. When ready to return, navigate to 'Home'.

that doesnt work like that i think you confused with what tomtom i using. it 540 live.

and that exactly what i did by the way, i arrived at destination then when i was going home i clicked "home" but got this differant route which took me into diversions.

that what i did and it got me lost, sinse the diversion just took me into another diversion...... in the end i used common sense to just remember the route i took and went back the way i came using my own know-how.

still it a shame there isnt a "reverse" butten or something sinse i feel 70% of all trips can be done both ways and without negative affect.
