I'm getting ready to buy a TomTom, and I would like some help selecting one.

What is the difference between the XXL540 series and the XXL550 series?

Also, there are numbers like 540S, 540M and 540TM

What's the difference between the S, M, and TM?

Not a whole bunch. There are some minor firmware differences, and the 550 has a faster USB chip .. a little quicker when loading new firmware or maps.

Don't worry about the "S". That refers to the "text to speech" feature that pronounces road names, etc. Any 540 or 550 you buy in the U.S. will support that.

T = lifetime RDS traffic subscription
M = lifetime map update subscription
TM = both of the above
