TomTom Model(s)
I think it is a Nav4 WiFi
I have just inherited the TOMTOM unit which I bought for my wife a good few years ago, and which lived inside her glovebox unused till now (she prefers to use her iphone).
Apparently the gift was not welcome at all.
Anyway, I have decided to use it as my old (ancient) Garmin is so out of date and updating the maps (its not even wi-fi compat) is a real PITA.
Unfortunately the TT instructions and manual has been lost (thrown), and the battery appears dead.... so here I am.
No more "practical" gifts for my wife, as she just doesnt appreciate them AT ALL.

If you can provide us with the first two characters of the serial number on the bottom of your TomTom, we'll know exactly what it is you own and can counsel you properly. Your description makes me think it may start with "ZE". Good device.

Hi Canderson

The serial number is:
ZN1228I02018

It wont hold a charge, although the battery status says 95% (it's been on charge in house for probably 20hrs or so now). When I unplug it the screen shuts off and the red battery (empty) blinks on/off.
Thank you for your reply

ZN is a serial number that corresponds to either a GO 520 Wi-Fi, 16GB, or a GO Essential, which is updated via Wi-Fi.

If your GPS device hasn't been charged regularly, the battery is dead and needs to be replaced.

Ah, very good. That's the 5" version of the one I was mentioning.

Agree with Willy. Based upon the description you have provided for the device's life, it is quite possible that the battery has gone completely flat due to an extended period of disuse. If that happens, the battery/charging system may not be able to function.

If nothing changes with your attempts to get it working on a mains charger, it will be necessary to replace that battery.

It's not a trivial DIY job, but it's been done many times and there's video help out there on YouTube and is also provided by some replacement battery providers.
