Help with map corrections?

I had this issue with my tomtom 720 and downgraded the maps and it fixed it.

With my new 930, I was hoping this was fixed, but apparently the new maps are dumber in this area than the new ones.

I work on the left side of 4 lane road with a turning lane in the middle. The 930 will not let me turn across the road to the left to get to work. Instead it takes me all the way around so I can approach from the right, or makes me take a u-turn at the end of the street.

I've fixed it by making both the east bound and west bound lanes two way. But it still makes a goofy extra turn, shown in the 2nd picture.

Anyone know how I can use map corrections to fix this?

I don't think there is a way to fix this. If there is, I'm sure someone will chime in with a suggestion.

There's been quite a bit of discussion on "TomTom's aversion to making left turns". Seems TT doesn't know about LH turn lanes... and thinks it's safer to make 3 right turns than 1 left turn.

Based on the pictures, it appears that the TeleAtlas maps consider this to be a divided roadway, with a physical median separating the east and west bound lanes, as opposed to striped median which vehicles are permitted to cross, and often contain left turn lanes.

Both types of medians are common, and there's no way the software can determine that the actual characteristics of the roadway do or don't match what is shown on the map.

The only way to get this type of thing corrected is to either submit the correction via Map Share, or directly to TeleAtlas at http://mapinsight.teleatlas.com.

In any event, I would advise undoing the Map Share changes you mentioned, as they have you travelling west bound in the east bound lanes.

In order to correct it and submit it via Map Share, I have to know how to correct it, right? Which I haven't been able to figure out.

If I undo the (slightly incorrect) correction I made, the 930 has me go around the entire block (north on River, west on Devon, east on Higgins (you can see those roads in the first SS) so as to approach the destination from the west and have it on the right.

Obviously, I know where I work, so I would just ignore it telling me to do so, but it adds an extra 3-4 minutes to the route and throws off arrival time accuracy.

What I've done in cases like this is:
  1. Map Corrections
  2. Correct a map error
  3. Report other error
  4. Existing street
  5. The choose a means to find that road on the map
  6. Wrong street type
  7. Other
  8. Then provide a verbal description of the error, such as "roadway not divided" or sometihng similar

I understand that you're familiar with the area. In cases like this I would recommend NOT SHARING this particular change. I do this when making changes to accomodate commercial vehicle restrictions.

Ah, I didn't think about using that 'Report Other Error' one. Thanks. I'll try that.

What you could do as a workaround....Add a POI or favorite to your TT with a creative name like "work" (you don't have to share the POI)....Place the POI at the right location on the road, but between the "divided" roadways. That way, the TT will think it has arrived at that point along the road, regardless of which direction you are coming from.
