I have tried to update my ONE iq with disasterous results! I carried out the updates on HOME then it would only come up with poor gps reception. I then followed the instructions on the Tomtome website and deleted the maps.gps as instructed. It then asked me to further updat enad I now have an error message (just "error" with a purple map pin in a yellow road) and the button that says "continue" does not work. Every so often the tomtom recycles around. It seems there is no way back. Help

p.s. tried to back up from the original back up file (hoing to go back to pre- update mode) and this also failed.

Did you make your backup using Home or your computer's operating system (Explorer, Finder, whatever)? It will make a difference to the recovery process.

Ugh. OK. Let's see what you have for maps. If those are intact on your PC, we can probably recover from nearly anything.

Look here and tell us what you find in the way of folders:

My Documents / TomTom / HOME / Downloads / complete / map

When you look at the contents of your unit using Explorer, do you see a specific map folder (like UK_and_ROI, or something like that) on the unit with files in it?

Thanks for the help and best wishes for 2011!

I have looked through the directories for maps and found;

Western_and_Central_Europe_2GB.pna (plus ..2GB-26.meta and 2GB-26.meta.dct). However, these seem small files (1KB, 278KB and 1KB respectively).

I hope this helps

David

Are they the only files in the Western_and_Central_Europe_2GB map folder on your unit?

There should be many more...........

That's all I can find. There are, however, some large files that are data files but as "fragmented" (e.g data_lim.chk at 5000KB).

It is not looking good

I know from experience that the '.chk' are NOT fragmented files like Windoze uses. These '.chk' files are important so it may not be as bad as you think.

But... not sure what else to tell you.

In this path:
C:\Documents and Settings\yourname\My Documents\TomTom\HOME\Downloads\complete\maps\

rename the folder I highlighted to downloadOLD.

Then connect to Home. Update my Unit and see what gets offered.
