Hi all. Great info here. I need help with my new XL340 S. I asked the store clerk if I could download European maps for this model since I travel back and forth from the US and Europe, he say sure you can.

Well I just bought a European map from Tomtom website for $69 and says I cant download to my device.

Can anyone tell me if I am doing something wrong or did I get jacked out of my money.

Did you select the correct model of TomTom in step 1 of purchasing the map? If so, you did purchase the map that was offered for your model?

If so, is it the installing that won't work (rather than the download?)

What map is currently installed on your unit? (tap the satellite bars to see the APPLICATION version installed. Now, tap the version number to see the map and its version installed?

If you are in Germany, didn't it come with a WE map already?

If, in fact, you have the USA_Can map installed, then try this:

Make a complete Explorer, not Home, backup of your unit's contents. Ensure hidden files/folders are showing.

Once that is done and you confirm the backup went well, delete the USA_Can folder from your unit.

Connect to Home. See if it offers an application update. If so, accept it.

Now, move to Add maps in Home and move to items on my computer. Does it show a map? If so, click 'more info' to see if it is the map you purchased. If so, select to 'install'.

See if that works.

You don't have room for 2 separate maps on your unit at the same time. So, if it did install properly, make a different Explorer backup.

You will have to copy 1 map to the computer and restore the other map when you travel to USA and vice-versa.

USA Map + European

I have just bought the XL 340 whilst in the USA and also bought and downloaded the UK Map for when I'm home. I had enough room for both maps (1.3GB and 182MB respectively) as the 340 has a 2GB internal drive. I had a couple of other technical issues which are now sorted but I had to copy and play about with my map folders as part of that process. As long as you use explorer to back up a copy of the USA Map folder to your computer hard drive and then deleting it from your TT device then you should have room to download the European Map. Before you go back to the USA simply do the same copy/delete with the European Map and then copy your USA Map folder across to your TT. It does work as long as you use explorer to do the backups.
