Get a spare ciggy lighter socket from a motor factors and wire that to the cars 12V supply (center pin is positive) then insert the TomTom charger cable to the socket and bury it all behind the dash, consider using PVC tape to prevent the charger plug coming out of the socket.
If you don't use the charger lead and wire the TomTom directly to the car you will fry the device, the TomTom uses 5V which is what the charger lead produces, there is voltage regulation circuitry in the actual plug to control the voltage - Mike
