Handsfree without plugging into car kit?

Does the Iphone connect automatically to the Tom Tom car kit via bluetooth without the need to put the phone in the car kit cradle?
Since I don?t have bluetooth in my car and would like an automatically connecting bluetooth handsfree (+ the navigation, hence the car kit) when I start driving and the times I don?t need navigation.
Sorry if this has been answered before, but have spent several hours searching without luck...

1) as far as I know it needs to be in the cradle with power on the cradle (power the cradle first then put the phone in)

2) I have a Platronics 925 paired as well as Ford Sync.

3) A far as I can tell you can not have all three paired. (music out from the mount, to the Ford sync via cord)

4) With the Platronics on and paired before I place the phone in the mount, placing the phone in the mount then it pairs with the Iphone. When a call comes in I answer it with the Platronics and all is fine via the ear piece, hang up and and back to the car kit.

With the cord into the mount and and the Ford Sync, music from the Iphone over the system in the car, when directions come about, volume of music is lowered and directions over the car speakers much better than over the Car Kit speaker. All sound stops for the phone call and it goes over the ear piece.

Thx Davidalan99, just got it confirmed from TomTom also, i.e it?s not possible to use the car kit as a handsfree without docking to the cradle... One solution would be as you do to have a bluetooth headset also, have to consider it.
