I'm a new 5200 user.

It looks like there are 3 GPS status symbols but I can't find what these mean anywhere.

One is like |X|
Another is a antenna with grayed out "signal" bars
Third is antenna with flashing "signal" bars

Can anyone confirm their meaning and if there are any other gps status symbols.

I also understand that GPS sat count and other status is not otherwise available on 5200 - is this correct?

Many thanks
Rich

Sorry they are not included there. The gps symbols are next to the time/distance remaining in the Route Bar. See p18, its is showing the |x| variant.

I think dhn led you to the place that explains the icons in question.

You must be used to an older (NAV2) type device.
The map with the number of satellites acquired does not exist any longer on devices built over the last seven years now. The built in antenna is far superior these days.
Indication of proper reception is the colour of the "current location" arrow head. With reception it is blue (default).

Here are two pictures attached. There is another variation of the antenna "beam" that shows the "beam" in grey. The one here is flashing. It is a new Go 5200 with latest software.

Sorry, Rich, that I have no answers, the GO 5200/6200 are not sold in North America but I have asked some questions elsewhere. Hopefully on of us will get back to you with the right information.

I was wrong about the satellite icon.
With a route programmed and no acquisition your RH picture is correct. (Inside a building, underpass, tunnel.)
At first glance your LH picture looks like the destination flag for a route but usually they consist of 15 squares with 2 narrow posts. Yours shows 9 squares with wide posts, which I have never seen.

On my 620 the satellite is replaced on the route bar with the destination flag once there id a lock on.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Having used the new unit for a while I've come to the following conclusion:

The right hand picture above of antenna "beam" has two versions'
a) grayed out beam means insufficient satellites available - searching for more
b) flashing beam means satellites found but getting lock (receivers need 3+ satellites and then need time to lock position). As you said you will normally see this when reception is compromised by bridges, buildings etc.

The left hand picture, |x| means position found and tracking. You are correct that this symbol is quite different to destination flag.

There is another symbol that I've seen after a reset that I guess means gps receiver starting and/or no satellite reception, it is followed by a) above. Maybe you'll see this when going through a tunnel etc?

It would be helpful if these were added to the manual!

I am glad you have it working for you.
In North America we do not get the 9 squares checkered destination flag, only the 15 squares one.
It would be helpful if these were added to the manual!
This is a peer-to-peer list, not connected with TomTom.
Suggest you make your recommendation directly to them.
