ONE New Edition V4
Anyone else STILL experiencing awfully long lag times between when you turn on your updated ONE and when it gets a satellite fix??

I updated my One Second Edition V4 to Navcore 7 as soon as it was available and ever since doing that it's been taking over a minute to get a lock when I turn it on. I like a lot of what Navcore 7 has or at least has the potential to offer, but I'm stunned they haven't addressed this issue yet. The GPS quickfix updates don't do a thing in terms of improving the speed of getting the satellite lock.

Just wondering if anyone has heard any updates or knows of a fix for this annoyance, thanks!!!

You a not alone. V6.X times to first fix were awesome, sometimes getting a fix lock before the OS was fully up and running.

TTFF times are now AS IF THERE WERE NO QUICKGPSFIX WORKING AT ALL... TOMTOM? ARE YOU LISTENING...

I too am experiencing the same delay. Seems like (4-5) gpsfixes back. i actually went below a minute. But certainly, they seem to have little impact on the sat dignal. I am beginning to wonder if a minute plus is simply the acquisition time of the TT1

Before I upgraded the firmware, I'd get a satellite fix before the software had even loaded so I highly doubt it's a problem with the ONE itself. Seems to me that there's a firmware glitch that needs to be ironed out.

I'm beginning to think that the QuickGPSFix is incompatible with certain TomTom units.

This morning, after downloading the latest QuickFix files, my TTONE v2 began reporting that I was nearly 1/2 mile away from my actual location! I let it continue to see if it would correct itself (eleven satellites locked). It continued to report that i was about 1/2 to 1/3 of a mile EAST of my exact location.

After 10 minutes or so, I switched it off, then back on. The problem disappeared.

But what if I didn't know my exact location?

I will report this to TomTom today. This is very bad. It seems to be directly attributable to the QuickQPSFix files that were downloaded today.

I'm still experiencing the same issues, this is ridiculous to be honest. How can they release a version with such an obvious flaw? It's bad enough that the major portion of the update (Mapshare) doesn't work with the maps that the majority of us have, but now it is taking literally minutes for my ONE to get a lock? I've been absolutely thrilled with my purchase since day one, but this is awfully discouraging... TomTom needs to do something to resolve it quickly.

Slow Satellite lock

I've got the exact same problem with upgrading to app ver7 from ver6 on my TT One 2nd edition. As soon as I updated it, the satellite lock (which was instantaneous before) now takes over 1 minute.

The Ones have 280Mhz, 32 ram against 400Mhz, 64 ram of the x20 & x10.

Beside the Sirf-III has its own CPU. You get what you pay for.:D

There's a thoughtful and well-thought out reply...

Can you explain your point about the SiRF III, as the ONE has that particular GPS chipset, is it that the new firmware is more oriented towards the Hammerhead chips?

Point was, and remains, with the 6.XX firmware, I'd get a fix in 10 seconds or so... now it takes much longer. You think that the version 7 Lite is so much more intensive that we're lagging due to inferior processing power? Not buying it.

Just my theory, you don't have to buy it.
Navcore 7 has many more functions than 6. Mapshare should be quite complicate.
It's logical to think that you can run Win98 on a 486, but don't expect blazing speed out of it.

The Sirf-III has its own CPU, that relieves the main CPU from some of the computational tasks, the Hammerhead doesn't have one.

The GPS fix time has absolutely nothing to do with the speed of the processor in the unit... this is coming from someone with a computer science degree. As you said, first off, the SiRF-III has its own processor, which means that ONE v2 should have no more problem acquiring a fix than it did with Navcore 6. I have never worked with GPS hardware before, but it makes no sense to suggest that Navcore 7 vs 6 is really that much of a technological leap. There are hardly any features that should actually tax the processor much more than with 6. The issue is not hardware, it is shoddy programming. Navcore 7 is essentially still a beta, or at least it should be. It will be fixed in time, as soon as TomTom gets its stuff straight.

I don't think you people understand. THE GPS QUICK FIX BEING SLOW HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE HARDWARE!

I have gotten locks in seconds before, and now it is taking minutes (both with navcore 7). Did my ONE magically decide to stop using some RAM or CPU mhz? The answer is NO. TomTom needs to do some tweakage and get things working correctly, because it has before. I have had navcore 7 before it was officially released and things were working beautifully.

The only thing I undertsand is during the course of navigation, a GPS doesn't find the fix once, and that's it. It constantly looses, acquires satellite signals along the way.

No one is having trouble holding onto a GPS fix... it's finding the initial fix that we're all having issues with.

Solution To Slow GPS QuickFix

My TT One unit was finally fixed after I re-downloaded the updated GPSQuick Fix File.
When I originally upgraded to App version 7, the GPS QuickFix file did not download properly. Actually it was missing, and my TT searched for the satellites for from 1-3 minutes before I got a lock. Previously with App version 6 the lock-on was instant.

After I discovered the GPS QuickFix file was not present, it took me two tries to get it downloaded correctly, but once I did it my TT locked onto the satellites instantly again!!
