Hello, I have a go720 that needs some parts. I an in need of the plastic crimp down clip for the ribbon cable that comes from the LCD to the MB. does anyone know where i may be able to find such an item.

I have tried newer tomtoms but i consider this to be the best tomtom ive used and thus dont want to give it up.

Are you sure its only the brown closure strip thats broken, usually its the small tabs at the end of the connector (the part thats connected to the MB) that break off. These tabs lock the brown closure strip in to place thus securing the ribbon cable - Mike

hmmm, you may be right... well... i could get the clamp piece and glue it in place. the tom tom was flooded with muddy water when my truck got flooded while doing a little off roading. i didn't realize the tomtom was on the floor until after i had driven out of the pits. when i slid the ribbon cable out i must have snapped the little plastic sides. pretty crappy thing for me to do considering i work with this same crap in laptops every single day... do you have any ideas on how to best repair this? it sounds like you have seen it before.

Its not going to be easy to glue this in position as the brown bar acts as a retaining strip pressing against the entire width of the cable, to release the cable the brown bar should have been released to pivot up to about 30 degrees which releases the cable letting it simply slide out, reassembly is the reverse of this process.
With the brown bar unable to lock in to position I would look at using a strong tape rather than glue, any plastic solvent based glue could melt the ribbon cable if it came in to contact with it.
And yes we have seen this issue a number of times when DIY repairs have been carried out - Mike

i no longer have this brown bar so i would need to get that first. i also thought of perhaps using another ribbon cable to hard wire to the MB with a female end on it. this is going to be a bit of a challenge
