GO 740 mount

I just ordered a GO 740 and was wondering about the mount. I currently use an ARKON mount for my 730 that has not fallen off in 18 months and I'd love to keep using it if an adapter is available. I saw that the 740 actually uses a cradle and was wondering if the cable can be removed from the TomTom supplied mount and connect to my current mount?

The 740 mount contains a PCB covered in surface mount electronics, it is possible to remove the mount "shoe" from the screen sucker if thats what you are looking to do but I doubt it will fit on to the Arkon x30 mount as they are way different.

If you are looking at dash mounting the 740 then there are options using the Brodt/ Pro-Clip dash mounts as TomTom / Brodit make a suitable mount, it's also possible to modify the 740 mount supplied with the device so it attaches to a "Brodit Ball" that secures to a Pro-Clip, details of this are available if its what you are interested in - Mike

The Panavise (the adapter is Arkon) mount is actually an AMPS mount with a Dual T attached, and then the TomTom mount specifically made for the Go 730 is mounted on the Dual T. So, I actually do have a flat AMPS type of layout that the cradle could be attached to I think. This is the actual mount with no adapters. I love it! This thing hadn't fallen in 18 months and I'd love to keep on using it if possible.

Mike knows everything about mounting so I'll let him continue with the thread,,, just two points.

- The 740 mount sticks much much better than the 730 mount to the windshield. It has the turn-to-lock of the easyport mounts, which helps it.

- The computer dock will charge the Tomtom, but auto day/night won't work on it. So if you're fabricating a solution, make sure it starts with the Tomtom car mount.

You could use the "Brodit" accessory mount that TomTom sell (see Here) but getting hold of this product in the USA is difficult as they only sell it in Europe for some strange reason.

Another option is available though which involves using the mount that was supplied with the device, but you do have to take your "as supplied" mount to bits:

First off the Brodit/ Pro-Clip with a TomTom "Ball" Attached and the donor mount, in your case simply screw the Brodit "Ball" to your Panavise unit, the Pro-Clip "Ball" can be found by clicking Here :

Look at the rear of the mount and you will see two Torx head screws (size T6) remove the two screws:

Using your thumb nails seperate the front face from the mount, it doesn't take much force but is a little bit fiddly:

Remove the four T6 Torx screws that are retaining the "ball" cover plate:

The ball cover plate can now be simply pulled off the ball and set to one side:

Remove the three Torx screws that are retaining the rear ball cover.

This component is also retained to the housing by the one slightly larger "Tab" that sits in a slot at the bottom of the mount, Once its free from the actual mount simply pull this off the main ball using a little force, the mount is now fully in bits:

Reassembly is quite staight forwards, position the main housing over the Ball.

Push the rear ball cover over the ball, make sure the larger tab is correctly seated in its slot and secure with three T6 screws:

Puch the ball front cover plate back on and secure with four T6 srews:

Put the main cover back on and secure with the final two screws in the rear of the mount, here it is shown attached to a vent clip:

Finally with the device in the car:

One other thread that might be worth reading is This One as it details installing Pro-Clip kit to the car removing the need for anything stuck to the windscreen - Mike
