Ok so I got a GO 730 for Christmas and started to play.....big mistake. I'm a newbie to TomTom's and did not do a back up prior to starting. I know now this was a huge mistake! Anyways we used it in the car and noticed a few roads didn't come up that have existed for 30+ years. I thought that was odd so I loaded up the latest version of home and did an update.
I didn't have any SD card installed at this time. Again bad idea. It wiped out the original map the unit came with and didn't complete the download. Thus began the "no maps found" msgs. I began to read and tried out a few things based on "tomtom support" solutions. No luck. Things started to go from bad to worse. I began to get "runtime errors" when I would open the home program. Not sure why??? Does this happen when you open home and turn on the unit out of sequence, as that seems to be a very important step? Anyways I've now downgraded my home program to version 2.2 instead of the latest and greatest and no longer get any runtime errors.
So my next big issue is loading a map. I purchased a 2GB SD card yesterday and installed it. Opened up home selected to put the new downloads onto that drive (H:\ in this case) instead of the internal units drive (G:\) and did an update. It loaded some new voices etc and the map (New N/A map, not postitive on the version but it's the latest one via Map Guarrantee) but when it finished a msg popped up saying there wasn't enough room for the map file it requires me to erase 1.2 GB from my unit. I looked at the files sizes prior to downloading and they should have fit on the card with room to spare. What am I doing wrong and how do I get out of this mess??? I'm trying to avoid exchanging the unit since it was my mistake but I seem to be banging my head on a wall here talking to their tech support and trying to get a map back on the unit.
Step by step help would great. I can get much more detailed info if needed. I cannot get my firmware version however since the unit will not boot past the "no maps found" sequence.
Thanks.
