GO 720 SD Slower & Slower

The reaction/updates times on my GO 720 seem to be getting slower and slower, I have my maps installed on a 4 CB SD card. My MP3 collection is installed on internal memory. Any suggestions on how to speed up the update times for the map? Thanks in advance.

Why dont you put your maps back on the internal memory? Then put you mp3
files on the 4 gb chip. The internal memory will be faster than the chip because there is no so called bottleneck. The files on the chip have to travel farther than the internal memory. I bet the chip also has a slower read/write times than the internal memory.

You were not specific as to what "slower' was. In any case, I doubt your device has anything to do with it. I have maps on internal memory and the SD card. I have noticed "slower" update searches then before - which would be a function of the TomTomm servers.

If you downloaded a major new update like a map - it would again be a function of the servers. A 2 GB map can take hours (slower then my internet connection by a large margin), while copying onto the SD card would take 12 - 15 minutes.

Don't mess with your device - it is not the issue.

I was referring to the screen update/refresh speed while driving, though I did not state that originally. My thinking is maybe re-formatting the SD card will improve the speed, though I do not know for sure. If so, is the SD card formatted in FAT 16 of 32? My maps (US & German) together take more space than what's available on internal memory, so that is why my 720 is configured as it is. Again thanks in advance for any assistance.

I don't think reformatting will make any difference. - it should already be set up as FAT 32, or it may not work ??? (if it is FAT 16 - it should be 32).

TomTom servers for data services through bluetooth have been very sporadic recently. Was cut off of traffic yesterday AM, and it does not appear to be back up yet. Thgis was confirmed by support yesterday and today.

Don't forget that the more poi's are selected to display, the slower the screen will be to refresh. If you have more than a couple of poi's displaying, unselect the additional ones and see whether that helps......
