GO 630 randomly reboots

ONE XL & GO 740 LIVE
We drove from Chicago down to Southern Indiana this weekend and with ongoing construction on I-65, TomTom's traffic service came in handy. Unfortunately, my excitement didn't last very long.

While the GO 630 was rerouting us around a 90 minute backup, traffic service (and all data service for that matter) all of a sudden stopped working and two minutes later the unit would reset on its own. Once it did that it would recalculate the last route and everything worked fine again. It did the same thing several times on the way to and from Indiana.

Since we drive that route fairly frequently I don't really have to rely on the GPS to find my way home but next week we'll be in Florida on vacation and the fact that the unit could just reboot on its own and cause me to miss a turn doesn't make me very happy.

Does anyone have an idea what the problem could be? Any suggestions on how to avoid this problem in the future?

I wonder if it will ever be possible to finish a trip without any incident?

Andy

There is a known bug where Tomtom will crash/reboot if the phone data gets cut off while there is a plus traffic incident.

Did your data connection die? Eg: the phone lost signal, or you were on a call (calls kill the data on a 2G network)

If this was caused by the phone data cutting out, call Tomtom to report this. The more reports the more likely they'll prioritize a fix.

This happens to me just about every day when I am using my tom tom alot. For me it seems to be a memory problem. When unit is used alot it just reboots like an alt control delete type problem. I think that the 64 mb ram is just not alloted correctly. This is total speculation. When connected to traffic along with bluetooth and cell phone plus the use of my remote, it just happens more often then it reboots and the memory is reset. Hows this for a pure guess? I called phone support the other day and the tech said that their is absolutely no 64mb of ram in my 920 only 4 gigs of storage and I couldn't convince him that it really has thie 64 mb of memory for the processor use. Such Training IS TOMTOM NORTH AMERICA LISTENING.
In my case my data connection is never lost. so I really don't know the real cause and that only the recent updates caused this problem.

Simply having bluetooth active was enough to reboot my 930 for no apparent reason. It was also sporadic. happened a couple times a day, then perhaps not at all for a few days. Since turning off bluetooth completely earlier this year, I can't recall a spontaneous boot. But it will turn itself on once in awhile after shutting it down for the day.

Yeah the 920/930 models continue to have a spontaneous reboot issue. The only thing that's different is the huge POI file and the EPT. One of these must be causing the problem.

I'm not aware of a spontaneous reboot problem on the 630/720/730 other than the phone data cutout, and the 3-day handsfree crash. Since Germerican has a 630 I ruled out the 9xx issue. Since it happenned multiple times on one trip I ruled out the 3-day handsfree issue. So that narrowed down my assumed cause to the the data-cutoff issue.
