GO 6200
I purchased a long time ago now a Tom Tom GO 6200 which has worked flawlessly ever since I bought it. I purchased it in the UK but have since moved to America. Everything works fine still apart from Traffic Data. I have a subscription to North American Traffic, but all I ever get on the services side of my device is.

Traffic: Service Unavailable and then when I follow that link through it says "We are having trouble accessing TomTom Services. Please try again later".

I've read that the cellular part which delivers traffic only operates on 2G which has been phased out in a number of countries, but also read that if your device is connected to your phone's mobile hotspot for wifi and/or bluetooth, it should still work, but I get nothing.

Any advice or support appreciated.

As you've already discovered, there isn't any 2G to support your 6200 in the U.S.

However, you can use your phone as a WiFi (or Bluetooth, but I find WiFi more reliable) hot spot and point your 6200 to your phone for WiFi to get the traffic data that way. Don't know why you "get nothing" that way unless your mobile carrier doesn't automatically include "tethering" in your particular data plan. Best check with your carrier to see. I think I'm paying T-Mobile an extra $10 a month on top of my existing 'bargain plan' to get the tethering support for my server TomTom devices that I connect to my phone for traffic.

Thank you. I think I have tethering as my phone can act as a personal hotspot for other devices and it does connect to my 6200 with both bluetooth and wifi. I just get the sense it's something to do with the device being UK and the traffic being USA, although I can navigate, download maps etc.

There's no reason that a UK device shouldn't receive traffic in the U.S. That's done all the time by travelers, and in the reverse direction as well.

Might be worth finding out if there's an overall issue with the traffic subscription for that particular device.
