Gilsson Dash Mount

Is anyone using this dash mount for the Go 720? I want to get a dash mount and don't want to spend a ton of money on it. I heard that the Navmat doesn't work very well with the stock suction (especially since I keep it plugged in at all times so the FM can at least work a little) so that is why I was looking into this one.

I am really looking for a dash solution not a vent clip and especially not a window mount (as my last unit got jacked from my car due to this). Do you guys know of anything decent in the $15 range that would work for me? I do not really want to use an adhesive either.

I use that exact mount. Got it from Amazon also. It works extremely well and the suction cup adheres very well, it won't come off accidentally. But as with any of these friction bean bag type mounts the stock TT mount arm is short and makes connecting the traffic receiver difficult. The power adapter won't be too much of a problem but will require putting the device at a different angle. I went to Semsons.com which carries all kinds of device accessories and purchased a suction cup mount that allows the device to be held at higher level giving the needed clearance for the connectors.

So I shouldn't have a problem with just the power cord? And what do you mean by "a different angle?" I am a pretty short guy as it is so if it is angled too far up I might not be able to see it. As for the suction mount, what did you pay for it? I know the tomTom extended one is like $30 which I am just not willing to pay.

Thanks for the help.

If you connect the power cord to the device while using the friction mount you may have to tilt the device upward a little. The way I have mine set up the screen is perpendicular to the mount and faces me straight on. With the standard mount and tilted the screen may catch more sunlight and be harder to see depending on the shape of the windshield and the dash. The suction mount I'm using with the bean bag is below. Semsons is showing it available for $11.99.

Plus $5 shipping :( Oh well, I guess I will try it out with just the bag first and if that doesn't work I will have to purchase an additional suction cup. In the long run it is better than paying for a new device if it gets stolen again.

But overall though, you find that the bag works nicely for you? What made you pick this one over the very popular navmat?

Don't you take it with you when go inside some where? Wont get ripped off then!

Can you move it from 1 car to another if need be?

Yes, it can be moved from car to car.

I don't take it with me EVERY time I go in somewhere (I guess I should). Sometimes I am just running in somewhere really quick and other times it is just inconvenient to take the unit with me (going to a bar or club etc...) Also, just because I take the unit in with me, doesn't mean that my window isn't going to be smashed due to the suction cup and/or suction ring left behind. Yeah I know I can just take the cup off and wipe the window every time but damn that would get annoying really fast.

That's exactly why I use that friction mount. If you leave any trace of a device like this on your windshield someone will go looking for it. I work in a hospital and one weekend during the day four cars in the garage were broken into for their gps units.

I use the Glisson mount because it adapts to the shape of your dash better and it actually has slightly lower height so it interferes less with the power cord. With the Navmat ( which I did try ) you'll barely get the power cord on without tilting the device to an extreme angle. Forget about the traffic receiver. If you get the alternative suction the Navmat could still interfere some.

So will this mount from Semsons work with the Navmat so I can have the TT plugged in and not have to tilt the unit?

i got mine from amazon

That mount will work fine with the Navmat. But I just recently saw a review for a friction mount from, I believe, a company called Arcon. It has the front portion hollowed out giving enough space so that you could use the original TT mount.
