Hi,

For a big UK round trip in summer we have bought a Tomtom Go Live 1005.

Can I use the device to determine my GPS coordinates at a given point in time and that 'upon the push of a button' in order to use these data for geotagging digital fotos (by hand later)?

Cheers and best reagrds.

Paul

Indeed you can get the lat/ long from the device but on some units it will return the coordinates of the position where snapped to the road rather than your true location, this wouldl still be close to your actual location though.

I don't know whether the 1005 returns a true position or snapped to road - Mike

On the "Browse map" screen... (renamed "View map" in the new models because TomTom think "browse is a much too long and tricky word for their users )
...if you tap the screen to get the blue cursor, then the displayed coordinates are of that exact spot.

The snapping to roads only happens to your displayed location (the car cursor), so if you saved "my location" it may not be accurate to an off-road location.

Also, if you save an off-road location, the TomTom MAY refuse to create a route to it, although this seems inconsistent as usually it will just route you to the closest point on a road.
