Gald I stuck with Tomtom

Hello,
I owned a TT One XL for years until it died. I was back in the GPS shopping game soon after. Garmin has always interested me and I came very close to buying one to replace my One XL. Eventually, I decided to stick with TT and got me an XXL-530S.

A friend of mine recently got a Garmin and so we decided to pop both of them on the windshield and do a side-by-side comparison.

I must say that I am so happy I stuck with TT. The Garmin lacked so many customizable features that I love about my TT. In addition, I noticed that during turns and other times, the TT onscreen map refresh rate seemed much faster than the Garmin.

In my opinion, all-in-all, the TT experience is just so much better than Garmin. I can say that both maps seemed equally accurate on the test run we did.

It would certainly look like the specific model of Tom Tom you had was better than the specific model of Garmin you compared it with.
A detailed analysis with the specific model number of the Garmin that was used in the comparison would be very good.
It would be good to know the exact features that you liked and disliked.

Does a Garmin delete all your favorites every time you upload a new map ? ? . . . . . My Tom tom does . . . . and that's not very clever !

As frustrated as I get with TomTom (both the company and the device), when I compare it to my Garmin c550 that my TomTom 920 and now 740 replaced, TomToms offer many features that the Garmin does not, has better guidance, better routing, more accurate ETA than Garmin. I'll also be the first to admit that the Garmin was virtually trouble-free, whereas the TomTom has been anything but.

I would never trade my TomTom for a Garmin. But if I were recommending something to my mother, sister, brother, wife, or anyone who might end up coming to me for help with their device, I would be hard pressed to recommend TomTom.
