Free Space on the TomTom 920

I just installed a bunch of POI files from this board (Thanks, Guys!!).

They all work, but now my TomTom is acting strange. It displays messages like it cannot write to the file system and the voice stops working. Could this be due to lack of space? According to my computer, I only have 167mb free on the TomTom.

What should I do next? Can I delete Guam and Europe maps, since I am in the US?

As a last resort, how can I restore the TomTom with the original files, so that I do not get this error?

Thanks,
Rob

That doesn't sound like a free space issue to me. It's more likely that the system software has become corrupted. You'lll probably find that this will fix the problem: https://www.tomtomforums.com/showpost.php?p=38855&postcount=17

If you aren't comfortable doing that procedure then it might be a good idea to contact TomTom support and see what they say... it also might be a hardware issue. But loading POI's onto your unit hardly takes up any space, and the free 167 MB sounds about right to me.

Pinballwiz, make sure to do a backup of your GO before doing anything else. You can use TomTom Home but it's kind of slow and sometimes it will crash during the backup process for unknown reasons; a better way to do it is using Windows explorer if you are connected to a PC. Look for the additional drive letter corresponding to the GO under my computer, select all the files and folders from the GO, then click copy, and now create a folder under my documents on your PC drive that you call "GO920BackUp", and finally do a paste. It will take quite a few minutes, but when it's done you should have an exact duplicate of the flash memory of your GO that you can copy back to the GO at anytime. Now on the GO you can delete under "Western_and_Central_Europe"the file called "cline.dat" and "faces.dat" which will give an extra 1 GBytes of free space.
If you have travel to Europe, then just copy these two files back on the GO from your backup folder and you will be ready to explore the other side of the pond with your GO. Good luck.

Sure, you can do that but I don't think the problem with the OP's unit has to do with a lack of free space. 167MB should be plenty. I'm pretty sure that he either has a hardware problem or his system file is corrupted.

Tried the TT920 again today, and lots of lockups and reboots all on its own. However when I unplugged the traffic antenna, everything appeared to work. Could the antenna possible cause these probelms?

Does the TomTom CD that came with my 920T have all of the files needed, if I wanted to restore my TT to the factory default?

Thanks,
Rob

Not the maps which really is the most valuable part. You want to make sure you either copy that to your hard drive manually or use HOME to make a full backup of everything.

I did make a backup before things started acting up. Really, the only thing I did was install a bunch of POI files that I downloaded from this board.

I will try to restore from backup when I get home today, and let you know what happens.

Thanks for all the help!

Strange.

I drove part of the way home with the TT920 without the traffic antenna not connected, and everything worked perfectly.

Then I reconnected the traffic, and everything still worked ok.

Seems to be working now. Not sure of what got into my TT, but it seems to be behaving now.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Try pushing the rest button for 15 secs.

I think the software is just a bit haywire ad in need of a reset.

Similar thing happened to me, and I did not even modify anything via computer yet.

I'm beginning to think you are right. After resetting the TT, I have not had a lockup since.

Its a mini-Linux system, so things can go haywire requiring a reset.

Its a good idea to do this after every connection to the computer via usb.
