I ask the question to TOM TOM as to why I lost my FM transmitter they told me it was because of a new law in the UK. If this is the case why are we here in the USA losing it and why do they have advertised the 930t 930 and 740 as having FM transmitters.

I know I can play music but I bought it becauseI could hear directions over my radio on my Bike. It is so much safer than trying to look at the GPS.

i would hope every one would contact the attorney general and complain- if they are not going to fix the FM give us our money back and we can go and buy a garmin that does work
tt is not listening to so i did not feel bad about complaining-
i hope some one starts a class action law suite-i will be there first to join!

As a temporary option, till TT fixes the FM transmission, if your radio has an "Aux in" jack, you can run a cable from the TT's audio out jack to the Radios Aux in jack.

go figure, Should ask Microsoft sue them on this as well. lol

The way I see it, this was poorly handled and false advertising.

Oh and 740 940 didnt say anything about FM is been totally taken off I believe. Those users are probably in much worse situation. I figured you wont need a google search if you already have an iphone doing all those? This was a let down. further to that they only give 3 months free subscription.

There are many very angry users for the FM being taken off. arguably there wasnt any warning when you update that you should backup, not even worth mentioning the backup doesnt do it properly with TomTom home.

I totally lost interest with it. the other solution is to have another fm transmitter to plug into the line in jack which defeats the whole purpose of the tomtom FM transmitter. Enough rant, ask tech support when is this going to be fixed? we want to know how long they going to take.

Why would you go to Garmin with lousy maps and no mapshare. Going from Point A to Point B is the prime reason anyone buys a GPS. With Tom Tom with IQ routing you get the fastest algarythms and fastest routes at any time of the day. Wait to you see HD traffic when in comes out later this year. If you Buy Garmin your nuts. Their traffic uses the towns or cities traffic radio transmision which is terrible but Tom Tom Traffic and later this year HD traffic like in Europe their is no equil.

Greetings all. Just to chime in, as a new TT user from the UK. I was also disappointed to find that my new Go 530 was unable to transmit direction over FM - especially as the Owners manual still states that this is an option.

As for it being a law in the UK that prohibits FM transmission, that info is way out of date. The law was changed on 22nd November 2006 to allow the broadcasting of personal FM devices in the UK. This was promptly followed by a huge rush of FM transmitters (good and bad) coming onto the UK market.

If TT are still using this old chestnut as an excuse to anyone, you can politely point out their error! Furthermore, I heard a rumour that the FM transmitter facility was only temporarily removed due to some bugs in the system and that we may well see its return in due course. I certainly hope so!

No one has said that FM modulators can't be used in the UK. You are correct that they can ... IF there's some sort of modulation involved (e.g., music, voice, data).

The rule in the UK is that one cannot generate an UNMODULATED carrier (signal but no sound) for more than a couple of seconds, and devices like the TT create just that problem -- lots of "dead air" between instructions. That is why the current firmware still permits FM transmitter operation for MP3 on the TT, but NOT the navigation instructions.

I spoke to TomTom in depth today about this. You won't get anywhere talking to tech support. I contacted headquarters sr. management and got a hold of a very nice engineer.

He is on our side. Basically TomTom Amsterdam has really screwed over the world and TomTom U.S. is scrambling to clean up the mess. They have numerous complaints about this issue and a big part of it is the false advertising.

He actually made a pretty good analogy which was surprising... something like its like buying a car with air conditioning but when you get home with it you discover the airconditioning is removed. You paid for air-conditioning, you expect air-conditioning, but you don't have it. However, you can still drive the car. For people that need air-conditioning its extremely important, for those who don't its not the least bit important. The problem for them is there are plenty enough people who want FM transmission.

So, here is the deal - there is no fix, even though 8.32 was supposed to fix it. It did not. A FM transmission fix is supposed to come out in late April, hopefully, but he did concede that a fix has been "coming" for a while and this problem started in early December. He agreed that TomTom should make this more clear in its advertisements... I could imagine as it sounded like he had had this conversation a few times before.
