This is my first GPS...TOMTOM XL 335 M...have no idea what to do.....whats the first thing I do to set it up? Sorry....really thought I just had to turn it on, lol !! Not all that great on computer either. Must be my age. Any help appreciated.

Welcome to TTF.

First, make an Explorer, not Home, backup of your unit's contents. If not sure how, see here:
https://www.tomtomforums.com/genera...4-how-backup-contents-your-unit-computer.html

The application you need to interface between the unit and TomTom's web servers is Home 2 for that model. If you haven't installed it, get the latest copy from here:
TomTom, portable GPS car navigation systems - _TomTom HOME

Now, you are entitled to the Latest Map Guarantee for the unit (connect to Home. Home's Tools-->Latest Map guarantee). You have 30 days from first use. Here is where it is very tricky. The current map is 865 and 870 is due anytime from mid May on. So, if you just got the unit, you could wait till maybe day 25 or day 26 (I wouldn't wait longer) and see if you can use the LMG with 870. But you don't want to be left without at least 865.

This forum will certainly announce the release of 870 within hours of its becoming available so check back.

You'll want to register your unit at tomtom.com with an email address and password. That info will be used by you when you log into Home from then on. (email actually is stored on your computer).

Here is a link to a manual I think works for your unit:

It says on the home page that its Home 1.6 that I need to install. Is that correct....you say home2

Thanks for your help....I need to do whatevers easier as I'm not that good with downloading etc. Can't seem to find an easy way to download to Windows Explorer???

No! You click the blue 'download' button ABOVE the Home 1.6 reference. That'll get you the latest (Home 2.8) to download and install.
