After many minutes/hours on hold, I just filally spoke to a real honest-to-
goodness human being (I think?) at TomTom Technical Support and asked these questions:
Question 1: If TomTom gets it's maps/POIs from TeleAtlas, why is there such a disparity in the quality/quantity of the POIs (Compared to MIO, which I "traded" for the TT720)?
Answer from TomTom: "POIs differ from area to area and company to company. TomTom gets maps and POIs form TeleAtlas. You can go to the website (www.poihandler.com) and download - for free - any available POI sets and install them on your unit."
Follow-on question: Can these POIs be installed directly on the TT720? How?
Answer: Yes. Download the POI file to your PC and then install them using
TomTom Home.
Question 2: Each POI's phone number is prefixed with a +1 which results in creating an international dialing prefix of 011 (the US code when out of country) which is rejected by the carrier.
Answer from TomTom: "We apoligize for the inconvenience, BUT that is just the way the system was developed. You will have to dial the POI's number manually."
Follow-on question: Is there a way to "escalate" this issue? Hands-free calling is one of the reasons I purchased the TT720.
Answer: I have logged your concern and will direct it to the developers. They are constantly working to resolve customers' concerns, but there currently is no planned update or change in the POIs or map. We apoligize
for the inconvenience.
NEXT: A trip to Staples to see if I can exchange my TomTom for something tthat really works!!!
