File names in the GO 530

Ok. I'll come clean. I misunderstood some rubbish instructions I got on how to get my TomTom GO 530 back into functionality. "Delete all the files" he said (TomTom Support desk), meaning Program Files in the computer. I'd said I'd already Uninstalled the Home program but the guy seemed insistent, that there would still be files that had to be deleted ... So, when I spotted a Home directory I merrily started to delete directories and files ... then had a fit and start when I realised I'd been deleting themin the TomTom itself, not off my C drive!

Well, I've recovered up to a point: Katie still talks to me and I have the maps back on. Navigation is now possible, the Bluetooth is working well with my phone but the music isn't playing (at least, it plays bit it can't be heard) and I seem to have lost the alarm sounds (and goodness knows what else!). But while I managed to recover all (or most) of the folders the folder names have lost the first letter of each name, so I am betting this is rthe largest part of the problem I face. So, I have to check each of them and correct where wrong. For example, I have a directory that is _PHEM. The first letter is missing. I want to know what it should be so I can rename the folder to what it ought to be. I think I have around 16 folders like that. I also have bunch of files in the same state, e.g. _E_META_30.TVL , _OCAL.INI , _PLAYER , etc

Can anyone help me with a screen shot of their GO 530 so I can do this, please?

Graham

Here is a list of my folders and files in the root of my 720. Your structure shouldn't differ too much:

itn
licences
logging
LoquendoTTS
maps
microbrowser

UserPatch.dat

The folders are in red.

(I keep my North_America_2GB folder on a sdhc card, so it is not listed. I suspect you'll have a folder named something like Western_Europe as well. If not, perhaps a specific map folder called UK_andROI)

Whats in the "bin" folder on the device, you should have the following listed:

gprscomd
mp3d
obexftpd
syncml

Getting there!

Thank you both very much - this has been MOST helpful. :)

I still have a few oddities and wonder if you have time to throw any light on them.

1. Directories in the main Directory:

.Spotlight
.22257
_LEETECD

2. There are some directories that are there but not on the list you provided:

caster
Contents
microbrowser
poi
Simon
text
._PkgInfo

3. And some files also:
._Info.plist
IBLUA.SO
_PLAYER
_PRSCOMD
_PRSSE~1.DAT
-TGO.BIF
_UXE.VER
_YNCML
Installer.data
Installer.icns
libec.SO
Localized.rsrc
There are four different LTTS7SimonGilder files
Mobility.sim
NEWSET~1.BAK
newsettings(2).dat
newsettings(2).bak
packedephemeris.ee
PkgInfo
a Wav file (restaurant.wav)
signpost_li.txt
Simon.vcf
suspendw.bmp
temporary.iti

I imagine some of these files have a home in some of the directories but I don't know which!

Files missing are:
ASR
microbrowser
raster
rdstmc
screen
pluserror.txt
reflush.log
ttdesk.ver

I THINK that's it! It is possible, of course, that in using the recovery program I picked up a few foreigners, of course.

The navigation by Post Code is now working since downloading a fresh copy of the map. One thing I have noticed that is NOT working is the MP3 player. The TomTom knows the MP3 files are there and lists them. It also plays but no sound is emited. Not a big deal but a nuisance.

Regards

Graham

Go to Change Preferences/ Speaker Preferences and make sure that the nav instructions AND the mp3 sound outputs are both set to Internal speaker - Mike

That ol' busted TomTom

Yeah, I checked the settings already, and no joy. But I reasoned I seem to have got most of the files back in the right places ... so, I pressed reset and, for once, pressing it did make a difference! The MP3 is now playing.

Thanks all for your help! You have made a big difference. Thank you a lot.
