Is there a web site that in detail explains the files and their function for the TT 630.
I have learned a lot on Tom Tom Forums on the operation of my TT 630 but when I read answers from the moderators when it comes to the files and folders names I am totally lost. Mentions of Navcore software, TTS voices, etc., just to name a few leave me to want the function of the files and folders found in the internal and external areas.
Is there an explanation of the purpose and function of all these folders and files somewhere?
Thanks for any information.

Here is an example of some folders and files on a unit I have:

When we refer to Navcore, that means the application that is installed on a unit. For example, Navcore 8.351 is the latest (but old) for the 630. It consists of may individual (loose) files not in any folder when it gets installed along with certain folders and their contents.

In fact, if you were to delete everything from the unit that provided the screenshot above, except for the two map folders (North_America and Europe_West) and then connected to Home and downloaded the application again, just about all the other folders would again be installed.

In other words, what makes the unit 'run' requires a whole bunch of stuff: maps, application data [found both in loose files and in some folders you see], voices--both recorded and computer, etc.

When we preach 'Explorer backup', it's to protect and save your maps. Everything else you need to make the unit work can be downloaded for free.

Just use Explorer and search around a bit within the folders on your unit. You'll get a sense somewhat for all the files that are needed for the complete 'package' to work. Although you won't be able to make out the contents of many files with normal editing tools.
