Before I start I did look on the forum for similar problems and I found some but nothing that answered my question entirely. I am a n00b when it comes to GPS devices.

So I got a Tomtom 130S for Christmas and as it recommended installing Tomtom Home (which I did) but it seems to have caused more problems than it fixed. It first crashed the Tomtom and I got the flashing red X. I was able to reformat and reload the content but it showed no maps. I clicked the updater in Home to get the latest Map for my 130S. The map downloaded and installed but i get the error message "You cannot use this map on this device: USA_and_Canada.

Here's where the problem lies; I did not have any content on it so I said to myself why should I back up if there is nothing there. So I do not have any way to restore my Tomtom to factory settings.

What is the best way to get my normal USA and Canada map back on my Tomtom?

Thanks for the help and sorry if I sound like an idiot.

You may have dl the latest (8.15) map without first updating to the required firmware (8.3).

I'd suggest you connect using Home and see if firmware 8.3 is offered as an update. If so, accept it and install.

Now then, use Home and navigate to maps/voices-->maps and move to items on my computer. you should see a maps item listed. Click on 'more info' to see the version number. Then select it and see if the install goes better with the updated firmware installed.
