Entering a Route

I'm looking to purchase a GPS for my wife. There are three features that I insist on but I'm having a hard time finding a GPS with the feature at a price I'm willing to pay.

One of the features I'm looking for is to be able to create a route going from one location to another through specified way points, on a PC or Laptop, and down loaded to the GPS. I would want to be to store up to 10 routes like that.

The second feature I want is to be able to add my own POIs.

And the thrid feature is to add addresses of family and friends. Perhaps this would be considered POIs as well.

Do any of TomTom's products have these features?

[FONT=&quot]Yes, you can do all of those on almost all (probably all) of the TomTom portable products.

There are a ton of POI's on this site.. And there are instructions posted on how to create your own.

There is an application that will assist you in creating itineraries then loading them for recall. It uses Google maps to create the route, then a converter that will make that route TomTom friendly.

As for addresses, you just create Favorites then you can say navigate to "favorites" and select one.

See the following about creating routes with Google Maps: https://www.tomtomforums.com/showthread.php?t=2743

Creating routes right on the GPS isn't too hard either - you can first create waypoints by browsing the map and touching the desired intersections. Then you add them to an "itinerary" where you can do further editing and save for future use.

The Garmin 700 series can do more sophisticated route planning using their MapSource software, but that might be more than you want to pay.

Thanks guys. That's just what I was looking for. But one more question... Do all of TomTom's models have these functions, if not what is the most basic model that has them?

Thanks.

You can do all of what you want with the TomTom One 3rd Edition which is the lowest end model.

However, the itinerary function on this unit is hidden. You must customize the menu system which is as easy as copying some new files to the unit. The downside with that is you'll lose the "Mapshare" and "Help Me" menu items as nobody has figured out how to include these functions in a custom menu system. Find out more about Mapshare and Help Me as you may not want these anyhow.

Other TomTom models have Itinerary in the menu already.

All models will let you easily add favorites and custom POI files.

If you can get your hands on a One LE (Limited Edition), it has all the capabilities right out of the box. I believe Bestbuy has them.
