Hello,

Are there any alternative locations to download the map updates then via the TomTom HOME software? I have made about 5 attempts to retrieve the latest (and very large) North American update so far and everytime I receive an error "HOME was able to connect to the TomTom server but did not receive any data from the server" at random times. Should I just keep trying and hope I get lucky that it completes? Thank you!

The problem could be that the servers are overloaded by the Xmas rush. You could try again in a few days, perhaps.

The only other way to buy maps is from the TomTom website. The U.S. site has not had much in map offerings, but if you change the settings to show that you are in the UK, forum members have been successful in purchasing and download maps this way. Use the 'search' function for the forum.

Do you have a broadband or dial-up connection to the internet ? I read somewhere on the TomTom site that you need to have broadband...roadrunner, DSL...etc. because of the large files. Not sure how true this is cause I have not attempted it via dial-up. Also check your firewall to allow your GPS and maybe your USB connection ports.

I doubt that there's a server requirement to have a specific connection speed.

However, downloading a 1 GB file with a 56 Kb/s dial-up would take something like 42 hours... if you could even stay connected for that long.

Same file would take 45 minutes on a 3 Mb/s DSL line.
