that when TT announces a large highway number, it pronounces it incorrectly? By incorrectly, I mean saying "Turn right onto Highway Two Hundred and Ninety", not as we've all been taught in school to pronounce a large number "Turn right onto Route Two Hundred Ninety."

Is this only on the TT One? (XL-S or otherwise?)...US voices?; Tom but not Garmin?; etc.?

I've been taught to say "two hundred AND ninety" so I don't see a problem with what TomTom is saying. Maybe it's the American schools that left out the "and"??

I thought you were complaining about it not saying "two ninety" but rather saying the full number lol.

Perhaps it's more from my engineering schooling? Maybe. I spent a fair amount of time googling proper number pronunciation and, even with what little I could find, saw it both ways.

BTW, I'd much prefer the "two ninety" version too.

For example, using the Susan computer voice (US) it pronounces Los Angeles
as LOS AN-HELL-IS.

The "AND" is the Euro/ROW influence. I believe that about the rest of the entire world says it with the "AND". I personally still have to remember to NOT say the "AND" in the USA.

I was taught that the "AND" denotes a decimal value.

TT is a European company! So deal with the correct grammer, only in the states you are taught to leave out the and It is not pronounced incorrectly, It is you that is incorrect!!! Hold on there! When was the last time you referred to the 401 highway as four hundred and one instead of the 4-oh-1??

It's hard to tell which is correct. You'll notice that there are both US and British versions of English. I sat next to a linguist on a recent flight to Toronto and she was saying that it gets confusing when talking to people who speak english but are in different parts of the world.

Frankly, the Canadian version makes no sense at all to me. They say that someone goes to hospital instead of saying they go to the hospital. But when they give you directions, instead of saying to "follow 401" they say to "follow the 401. And of course, they add "aye" to the end of a statement. It's OK, just think it's an odd way of doing things. But at least they have tons of good golf courses around Toronto!
