Disguising my TomTom ONE mount

Good idea, but that's a very expensive mount for a $1.99 compass! ;)

Personally, I wish someone would steal my GO700 -- then I could justify getting the GO720 (or 920). Why do I have the feeling that my GO700 will be the GPS that just won't die? Five years from now, I'll probably be glaring at it (giving it the stink-eye) and saying, "DIE, DARN YOU, DIE!" It will just smile at me and say (using it's downloaded John Cleese voice), "I would like you to upgrade me to TomTom v10.217, please. Thank you!"

Grrrrrrr.....

Maybe I'll put the mount on the OUTSIDE of my windshield to increase my chances of needing a replacement......

Cool modification. But I gotta ask, why would anyone go through the trouble of stealing just the GPS mount without the GPS in it?

Adblink, click on the marooned colored link (that is usually the default color for a URL).

Seriously, if you let me know your GPS location when you plan to leave your car parked, with no locks, and no car alarm, I would definitely do the honors of helping you with that special order.

Well there are good odds you will find a GPS stashed in a car if you see a GPS mount on the dash or stuck to the window

I guess the same odds that if you see a detachable face car stereo, they may think the same thing. But I am one of those that take the detachable face with me along with my iPod and now One Le. (Man, I sometimes don't have enough hands to carry all those items with me when I go to the store.. lol! Anybody have a fix or tip what to use? Like a special carrying pouch or something?

I made up this little gizmo to disguise my mount when I remove my ONE when I leave the car in a carpark.
Thanks 'Biggles_downunder' for this suggestion. I added the same thing in attempts to disguise my TT mount. I found a cheap compass for around $3 at Walgreens here in the U.S. Using a stencil I made by pressing a small piece of paper against the back of my TT-ONE with my fingers, I then traced it onto a piece of plastic to fit the mount (old VHS plastic case). Here's a couple of pictures

sorry for the blurriness of the close up

The TT mount is definately an *overkill* for this small sized compass, but who knows... might fool somebody, LOL.

Just wondering ??? Why go to all that trouble, I mean it's a suction cup mount Right ? Just pull the mount off the window when you park your car....Then know one knows you have a GPS in there. I just remove mine but I have the other problem ,the wife doesn't like there....Cool idea though.....

Very good solution!

I used to take the mount off with the GPS, but after a few dozen times of doing that, the mount would often just fall off when I was driving, creating a hazard, so now I just take off the Tomtom and lock it in my dash.

When I get my 720 though I think I'll take it with me, especially when I park at work...

ok, i know this is just my opinion on this and all, but the whole little compass thing attached to the suction cup mount isn't going to fool anyone.

if a thief is actually looking for a gps to steal and is eyeing for suction cup marks or the mounts themselves, sticking a little compass to it isn't going to change a thing. they're still going to break in and and look for the actual unit if tey really want to. they know that compass isn't what goes in there.

it's not going to fool anyone.

if you're that worried about it i would recommend find a way for a little more of a custom install that hides it a little better.
