TomTom Model(s)
GO 5200 EU45
Dear all,

I have a TomTom GO 5200 EU45, purchased and activated at the end of January 2019.
Over this past Christmas break it was never able to connect to the GPRS network for receiving traffic information.
I have rebooted the device, but it stayed isolated, no GPRS connection.
In the attached Photo you can see the icon on the screen signalling the missing GPRS connection. In the Info page of the device it states that the GPRS status is 'disconnected'.
Is anyone having the same issue? Any clue on what is going on and how to fix it?

Kind Regards
Nicola

You could try support:

Deutschland
+49 89 143 77 0272
Mo - Fr: 09:00 - 17:30

For the records, I have resolved the issue. Here is what happened.
I called the Tomtom support team and they told me to disconnect the unit from the wifi and then to perform a factory reset.
Upon restoration, I logged in again to the home wifi network, and to my Tomtom MyDrive account, having my positions restored. However the GPRS was still not working. I notified again the support team and they reactivated my SIM Card. At that point my Tomtom Go 5200 was again able to receive traffic information from the GPRS network.

now tom tom closing live traffic for live time devices or charge you 105 E for fake service!

I still get traffic on my smartphone connected Go 50 and Wifi connected Go 520

@tomtomart Do you have a link to this news or change of policy by TomTom?
In any case, my device stopped using GPRS again after a while, and I have stopped caring about this issue.
I now share internet connection through my cell phone and the TomTom device gets live traffic through it.
It is not ideal, but it works.

It could well be that the carrier servicing TomTom dropped 2G service in your immediate area in NL, which is what these units depended upon. That said, I thought NL was not going to shut down remaining 2G service until 15 Nov 2023. I believe a lot was shut down there on 1 June 2021.

Looks like unless you've got a connection to Orange, which appears to be the contender for 'last man standing' for 2G, you're going to be out of luck in Europe soon enough.

That happened some years ago to us here the U.S. when AT&T (with whom TomTom was linked) finally shut down 2G, and so TomTom quit selling cellular connected devices here and switched exclusively to BYOC (Bring Your Own Connection) devices in our market. On 31 December of this year, the remaining US carriers with 2G will shut down what's left of their 2G networks as well.

OTOH, we have seen a few subscriptions go south on the 'Always Connected' devices (like the 6200), and then it's necessary to get TomTom directly involved to reinstate the subscription.

Service working just fine here. Live traffic doing just fine.
Sure you aren't talking about the cellular subscription for your 5200?
As nicola suggests, use your phone. We do.

OK, but why do I have to pay for it? I paid a higher price for Live Time before, and now a nearly new device?

Now I see it's better to use an old cell phone with Google Maps then this Mickey Mouse company product!

Sometimes on GO 6200 removing the Sim card which is under the clean label then reinserting it can work.

You don't have to pay ... but TT needs to keep the cellular subscription active with the carrier. It's rare, but we've seen that broken before.

try this troubleshooting video.

but the TT sim card inside my device is disconnected!
I know how to check or diagnose electronics.
modem on TT device working, recognised and present cerrent firmware version.
all subscription fine.
TT want too charge me for replace sim card me 105Euro!
if something was wrong and needed to be fixed ok but there TT disable sim card fecause technology gone.
And I have to pay for this?

Hi there @tomtomart -
When was the last time you used your TT 6000 and TT 6200 when they were receiving traffic data? If it was between 12 - 18 months ago, the internal SIM is normally disconnected from the network due to non use. If the 2g network is still operational in your country that TomTom uses for your devices (normally Vodafone or possibly Orange) then TT would need to replace the internal SIMs at a cost.
Your TT (GO?) 6200 I believe also has Bluetooth connectivity, so you could pair your mobile phone to receive traffic data that way.

I using everyday, last active was 23 nov. and few days after I complain to TT.
There is Vodaphone card.
I agree about switching off som services for technology expired, but why TT maked this asa a my problem?
Why cheating me this is a faulty device?!!!!!!!!! And TT want milking me for over 100E??
I will recommend for everypne just separate as a device old phone and google maps! You can share your internet connections and recieved everything live! Cheaters!
