Destination error?

I have a new TomTom One 3rd edition.
So far i'm very impressed. It must be the "Mac" of gps as even i find it very user friendly.
I have however a puzzle.
I have found accuracy even as to how far ahead my turn is in yards to be amazing.
However as soon as i turn onto the street where the desired addy is located the TomTom announces that i have reached my destination.
If i then have 5+ houses on each side of a street i'm sort of left to dangle.

Am i missing something?

I think address locations are more of a guesstimate than an specific location and so you may in fact dangle and hope they have house numbers or a porch light where you are going.

I find it odd that you guys in the US are having all this issues. My go910 is always right-on-the-dot here in Europe. I also didn't have problems when travelling in the US with my PDA and Nav 5 and 6. I guess it must be the map itself.

destination problem.

Here is additional information regarding my recent post about inaccurate placement of destination.

I just looked at a bunch of locations known to me using Google Earth.
1/2 of the locations had the cursor from 480 to 1000 feet off.
In one case 2 house numbers were shown at the same spot though in fact they are 600 ft apart.
The views are marked 2007 GIS NY.
Clearly Tom Tom is reflecting error in existing maps but the error is not caused by change as the locations i checked are (mostly suburban homes 20-30 years old)
Tom Tom support suggested i re configure my satellites which makes no sense to me as i get an immediate lock on, and the Tom Tom can show me sitting in a driveway or schoolyard and direct me out to a street then provide faultless driving view and voice directions.
Seems to me that a satellite problem would effect all the nearby locations not just half?
This is my first auto GPS but i have used a hand held for fishing for about 15 years and this problem seems odd to me.

I have found the same problem. Google Earth had an address (a home which is at least 50-60 years old) which was four homes off from where it actually is!! I do believe that TT is suffering from the maps it is provided.

My home in Google is off by 8 houses. Tom Tom 720's NA 7.10 map is also off by the same 8 houses.

Oh well.....

I found the same problem when I travelled to my parents on LI a couple weeks ago. I turned onto their street and my TT said I reached my destination when in fact I still had a full block, about 10-15 houses to go. In fact they are the corner house and the highest address on the street since their street ends at their intersection. when I looked on my TT, it showed the house numbers going up even farther than they actually do. I will say though I did notice the same thing on google maps.

This is intresting.

I used to design a mapping program for the Palm PDA about 10 years ago.

We had the same issues.

The problem is most of the basic map data that exists, while its correct for street names, locations, etc.. is far from correct about the actual address locations on a street.

About all most map programs have is the "numbers" on a street, its up to the map designer to try to "guess" where the homes or street numbers would be laid out on the map.

Until someone actually drives down every road in north America and "ticks" off where a building is. This is as good as it gets.

Google maps has the same issue, and has - come up with a fantastic idea - allow the user to adjust the map so it is more correct (within a 200 meter range).
