Here is a photo of my new TomTom with my older Magellan Pioneer (1st owned gps) on my dash. Got the first Magellan in '97, even though simple compared to todays gps, I still managed to use it for car naving. I also own a emap(2nd gps), Earthmate PN-20, Cobra Nav One. I am kind of addictive to GPS from early on

Was not sure the Pioneer would be still able to lockon. I have not used it for many moons. Well it took a long time but it did lock on and showed my pos.

the old days

greyscale, no sound, no mount, no car charger, no traffic, no hands free, basic maps with no street names. Wow what a change!

Good pic

lol...

i think i got you beat by a year...

i just finished charging up the batteries for my garmin 12XL. when you first turn it on, the copyright is 1996.

this wasnt my first unit though. before the 12XL, i had the gamin 12 with a removable swivel antenna. but that was an single channel receiver only and it took over 5 minutes to lock on a stable 3D signal... lol...

i traded that in for the 12XL when it first was release and the biggest selling point was the 12 channel receiver.

the signal lock dropped down to a minute... it was a hoot.

in 2000, when SELECTIVE AVAILABILITY was finally turned off, the signal accuracy went down from like 100 feet to around 10-15...

BIG BIG difference...

tomorrow, when i go 4 wheeling i'll lay the 12XL next to the ONE XL... whoa... what a coincidence... 2 units with XL in the name... 11 years difference...
