Corrupted Favorites

So, I installed the new map today on my 920 and it worked fine until I put the MapSettings.cfg file back in the North America folder. Once I did that my 920 would just keep looping while trying to restart. I tried the pin reset but that didn't work so I ended up calling TomTom support.

First they said that you need to uninstall and reinstall the application, which I did a couple of times without any change in the looping. About an hour later I called back and they told me my MapSettings.cfg was corrupted. How can this be when I've been using it on a regular basis? I'm thinking that something with the newer map doesn't like my old .cfg file.

Any suggestions on what I can do to get my favorites back? I still have the old .cfg file and would really like to get this to work again.

Finally, will TomTom ever incorporate the backup & syncing of favorites & POI's automatically with their map updates? It's kind of a pain to have to remember to transfer & back them up on my own.

Copy your old mapsettings.cfg to the new map folder. Then connect the unit to Home. Go to Manage Favourites in Operate my Unit and edit one by adding one, deleting one or editing an existing one. Then disconnect the unit properly from Home using the Device Disconnect icon.

Restart the unit. Does that help?

See this thread about saving Favourites as a custom poi category

I'm not having a problem with new map updates wiping out custom .ov2 files stored in the map folder from an earlier map. What's happening with you?

Thanks, it worked! From now on though I will save them in a new POI category.

Okay, I've got another issue I can use some help with. While logged in to TomTom Home, when I go to Tools, TomTom Map Share, Map Share Prefrences, Select Country, there are no options listed for any North American country. The only map I have installed is for North America. I am signed up for the Map Share updates.

Thanks again for your help on the favorites. I really should give up calling support and just research answers here.

Any mapshare files you download will apply to the complete North_America or USA_Canada map you have installed. The files are relatively small in size so you shouldn't have to worry about running out of space.

It looks as if that needs to be posted in another forum urgently.
