I finally got my system unit to update to the 8.01 that only took a couple of days! I added a 2 gig sd card to accomplish this because of the internal memory limitation. I thought it was installed to the memory card, however when I pull that out the unit shows v8.010.

If I leave the memory card in, I can't access the unit through the "Home" program. I should elaborate, I can't operate my one xl and I cant get response from the "show contents of my ONE XL". Other problems exist like I am told I need to reboot because of changes, every time I hook up the USB connection...

So I need to know what to do to make the memory card more usable, if anyone could help it would be appreciated.

Also I thought the latest map I should be able to get is the same one that is available for purchase, (I'm on day 2, only 28 days left to figure this out), when I click the "Use latest Map Guarantee" link I am told I have the latest, I don't think so.... mine is "USA_and_Canada" v710.1575. If I use the Maps Icon in Home, there is no USA and Canada map. If I go to purchase a map I see v8.15 is available, so what gives?

The tomtom xl reads either memory card, or internal memory - not both.

Take out the memory card and plug it into a card reader on your computer.

Then copy the entire contents of the tomtom using windows explorer (show hidden/system files) onto the memory card.

Then you can plug in the memory card back in and it should work fine.

If LMG doesn't work, you can call up their phone number and they'll give you the latest map. You should make sure they give you map v815.

I may have solved the memory card issue, I did a new backup of the internal memory, then restored it to the card using the card reader, now I can use the show contents and operate it from the computer.....

I still have the no newer map issue though....

Thanks for the reply, I think I was replying at the same time... I had already tried the copy through the windows file system and the result was the quirkiness, using the 'Home' restore seemed to resolve that issue.

I was thinking perhaps a phone call might be in order to resolve the map issue, I did however want the backup/restore situation resolved prior to actually d/ling the maps, just in case things got really screwed up. Don't want to be told I have to pay for a second d/l.

Call support at 866-486-6866. Home is notorious for not giving the correct information about the LMG.

Looks like I was premature with that statement. When I shut down the computer last night and then tried the TT without the USB connection it had me go through the setup screens again, it had also lost the destinations I had put in.

This morning I hook it back up, Home shows an update, its the 8.01 I check the device and its back to the old version. I have just run the update again. It shows v 8.010 again.

Now I am wondering how did it manage to regress all on its own?

Plus what file/s do I need to copy independently to save my favorites, and configuration changes?

The mapsettings.cfg is where the favourites are stored. See if you can copy that back to the map folder from a backup.
