GO 720
A week ago I bought my GO 720 ($300, Best Buy) at the beginning of a trip. Along the way, the Install CD and Map Upgrade Code were accidentally discarded with the packaging. On return home, I was able to install TomTom Home from the website, but was unable to upgrade the map without the upgrade code. I emailed TomTom Support; when I got their response, I was able to download the current map (N_A_2GB 710.1584). I am wondering if the TomTom Support reset my account (and GPS serial number and activation date) to allow the download.

My current application is 7.220, and I see a lot of posts about 7.221, which apparently allows voice recognition. TomTomHome > Update My GO does not indicate an update is available (after multiple attempts.)

An explanation from TomTom Support has been requested, and is pending, but I suspect Forum Members may be quicker to respond (and possibly more knowledgeable than Support personnel.)

Thanks,

Fred

Best Buy $300 for Go 720? Help

Hi there,

How did you get the Go 720 for $300----was this a sale price or a list price. I was only able to purchase one for $399 and that's the price on the site (marked down with TomTom discount of $100) again, final price $399.

Did you use coupons, in addition? I purchased mine on 12.04.07 online with store pickup, using a number of discounts but ultimately the base price was $399.

Regards,

Ted:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

I had this issue as well where my TomTom was indicating that I had Firmware 7.220 but HOME was not downloading 7.221. What I ended up doing was using the Flash tool on my TomTom, then when I reconnected to HOME 7.221 was waiting for me.

The Flash Tool is available here: http://www.tomtom.com/support/index.php?FID=6178

Hope this helps,

This confuses me more. With my GO out of the cradle, the version is 7.221 (22.7 MB). In the cradle, under "Operate my GO" the version is 7.220.

TTHome>Add Maps, etc> Items on my Computer shows app 7.221 (22.7 MB)

"Contents of My GO", "Remove from GO", and "Copy to Computer" all show application version 0 (10.6 MB).

I've tried copying 7.221 to the GO, removing the app from the GO and then copying 7.221 to it.

I'm assuming the GO actually has 7.221, since it says so, and since voice recognition was working correctly (at least until last night, but not today.)

I'll check out the flash tool, thank you, but will be happy to hear any other thoughts. This seems bizarre to me, but maybe that's just the nature of computers, to be confusing.

Don't pay to close attention to the "Operate my go" (or Virtual TomTom) in the version screen as it is misleading. It's been this way for awhile.

The accurate info is when you disconnect from the PC/Mac and view the version screen this way.

Thank you, D-F. That's a relief to know. Wish I'd known it before I wasted so much time trying to fix something that wasn't broken.

That makes sense, I guess, because the voice recognition is now working (again) and wouldn't work unless I have ver 7.221.

Hi all, I will post this again, not as a "brag", but as a "deal" for any Ebay shoppers.....I got my TT720 last week from an Ebay-er, reputable dealer/seller, for $385 + 15 s/h, total $400. In the package was the TomTom $100 rebate, so after I get my rebate my cost will be $300. The package shipped in 3 days straight to the house, the unit was "brand new", totally happy, so anyone wanting a deal (while TT is still offering the rebate) check Ebay and just search for Tom Tom 720.

not to be a bearer of bad news stylemaster, but i dont know if your rebate works from ebay. the rebate says u need an original cash register reciept and original UPC (which most ebayers cut out). if i were u i would double check. i dont know who to contact about this stuff but u should def look into it.
