Charging Socket

Hi, I have a Rider 1 with a dodgy charging socket.

When I try to charger the Rider in the house, I have to move the lead of the charging adaptor around until I find a position where it starts charging. I then have to keep an eye on it as it often stops charging every few minutes. When using the in-car charging lead, I also often have to wiggle the lead to get it to charge.

Is it possible to repair the charging socket, and is this something which a user can do?

It sounds like you have a loose connection. It probably can be fixed. But I have never seen a Rider 1.

Hi redmelons
Try starting simple .... check that the plug or socket aren't corroded. A simple scratch with a sharp object may be all that is required. Check the plug is delivering electricity when plugged in to the wall and turned on .... this will require the use of a test meter. Bend the wires where the go into the plug and come out of the wall unit, it may be a faulty connection there. If both of these inspections fail to locate the fault, I would suspect that the plug socket either has a faulty / dirty contact inside it, or it has a faulty connection to the circuit board of the Rider. If you are technically capable and have a fine soldering iron, you may like to open the Rider and attend to these items. I believe that some of the case screws are easy to find, however 2 are hidden behind plastic plugs on the back of the rider .... I have a Rider2 and haven't seen a Rider1, however there are instructions for dismantling the 1 on the internet.
Hopefully the simple approach is all you will need!!!
