Hi

I am shortly changing my computer and wonder whether I ought to copy anything from the old machine on to the new one.

I have noticed that when I access my device/my computer using the Tom Tom Home software the computer holds all my downloads since I first got my device but I am wondering whether this information needs to be kept as I don't see a way to transfer anything from my PC to my Device anyway.

I regularly backup my device and also copy the total contents of the device to a separate location.

I would appreciate some advice on this matter.

Download and install a fresh copy of Home 2 on the new computer. When you log into Home with your device attached, just make sure you use the same email address you used on the original computer.

You also probably should make an Explorer, not Home, backup of your unit's contents on the new computer so that the map especially is backed up. See here if not sure how:

I DO think you would be wise to copy everything from the old Home to the new one.
If you open Home, go to the Tools menu select Home Preferences and then the "Folders" tab, you'll see the default folder locations for backups, downloads, etc
Just move everything form those folders on the old PC to the same places on the new one.

Also all of your manual backups should be retailed, either by moving them to the new PC or by archiving to DVD or similar.

I am wondering whether this information needs to be kept as I don't see a way to transfer anything from my PC to my Device anyway.

The "Manage my Device" section on page 2 of Home and also the "Add Traffic, voice Cameras etc." section on page 1 both scan your PC fro any content you've previously stored there.
Also, if you had used Home to make backups, then the "Restore" function in Home would pull it back from the PC.

Thanks for the additional information Andy - I shall certainly take all the advice on board.
