TomTom Model(s)
Go 6100
Hello to everybody!

I'm Andrew from Italy, I had a TomTom Go 6100 and last Christmas I gave it to my mother-in-law. A god friend of me wrote me this morning and told me about the problem of the removal of Tomtom services via its integrated SIM card, he has the TomTom Go 5100. For my mother-in-law will be a serious problem, she lives between Italy and Austria and she has a daughter in Switzerland. The device saved her a lot of time last winter with the traffic update due to a lot of problems on the German highways due to a snow storm. Due to that problem, I found a solution with my friend. We saw that is possible to remove in an easy way the sim. He removed carefully the sticker at the bottom with a little knife and after that he was able to remove the sim. He discovered that the sim was a Vodafone NL.

He tried to put a Vodafone IT SIM card in the slot. Unfortunately, the operation was not a success. We discovered that all the TomTom sims the we found on the web are Vodafone NL (SIM’s ICCID is 8V00.200 8931440400[followed by the other digits]), my friend used a sim Vodafone IT. I think that the problem is the APN, we need to change it but we are not able to retrieve the information on internet. Anybody knows how to change that setting?

I evaluated for my mother-in-law service for M2M with the operator Things Mobile. I know that It’s not free but could be a good compromise for her, especially if you travel in different countries and one of them is outside EU. But before that I need to solve the problem of the APN settings.

Thank you, guys, for your help!

Out of curiosity, what is the APN information as it was set up originally?

Have never had occasion to try this on a 6100, only on the TomTom 'Pro' series, so not sure where/if that setting appears in the menus.
It was always my impression that there was no reason to manually change APN if installing another carrier's SIM. AFAIK, they all point to live.vodafone.com when using a Vodafone card.

A friend with 5100 tried to place a Vodafone Italy SIM card but was not working. And he normally use that card as an access point in his car.

If you cannot connect to TOMTOM Live services, review your APN mobile provider settings, using "Portalmmm.nl" for IPv4 compatibility, especially with carriers like KPN in the Netherlands. If you're using TOMTOM Live services with a Bluetooth connection, ensure your APN settings are configured correctly, as IPv6 settings like "internet" may impede connectivity.

Doubt anyone posting back two years ago will spot this. You've covered it adequately elsewhere.

That said, what's up with this use of KPN's portalmmm.nl APN?
Seems a bit odd for a TomTom supplied SIM.
