Car charger not working

Ive got one of the first tom tom's and over time i have found that the car charger does not charge it. i was just wondering if this was a common issue. sorry if this question has been asked before i apologise.

You'd want to ascertain whether it is the charger or the unit (or the cigarette outlet, for that matter).

Does the charger work with the unit in a different car?
Does the unit charge via USB when connected to the computer?
